Founded in 1552 by Edward VI by royal charter, Shrewsbury School is one of the seven public schools subject to the Public Schools Act 1868 and one of the nine schools reviewed by the Clarendon Commission between 1861 and 1864. It was originally founded as a boarding school for boys. In 2008, however, girls were accepted in the Sixth Form. And since 2015 Shrewsbury School has become a co-educational school.
