War on Want Campaign, KCL

The War on Want Society at King’s College, chaired by Michael Packs, was part of a broader initiative focused on providing humanitarian aid to newly independent countries. During the mid-1960s, under Packs’ leadership, the society raised funds for essential infrastructure projects in Algeria and Morocco, countries that had recently gained independence from colonial powers. By supporting the construction of wells and hospitals, the society played a significant role in the rebuilding efforts in these nations, embodying the decolonisation ethos of promoting self-sufficiency and empowerment for formerly colonised regions.
