Born in Bath in 1833, Griffiths was a student in the Military Department at King’s from 1848 to 1850. After leaving King’s, he became Ensign in 1851, serving in the 52nd Light Infantry, before leaving the military a year later. Griffiths then relocated to India in 1853, where he remained until 1857. By 1871, he was a ‘gentleman landowner’, according to the Census of that year. He died in May 1881 aged 48 and was buried in Brompton Cemetery, Kensington.
