Born in 1756, George was the youngest son of poet Richard Owen Cambridge. He was well educated, and pursued a religious career. His friends attempted to set him up with Madame d’Arblay, but although she was interested, he himself was not and it did not continue. In 1795, he married Cornelia Kuyck van Mierop. He was good friends with Joshua Watson of the Hackney Phalanx group, and was himself involved in various religious societies, and collected art in his spare time. He was the Archdeacon of Middlesex between 1808 and 1840.
