Suceeding his father’s title after the first Marquess’ death in 1827, also being styled Viscount Malpas until 1815 then Earl of Rocksavage from 1815-27. He was elected a Tory M.P from 1817-21 and participated in the coronation of George IV in 1821. From 1830-8 he served as Lord Great Chamberlain and was admitted into the Privy Council in 1830. In 1858 he became constable for Castle Rising which he kept until his death in 1870. The family seats were Houghton Hall and Cholmondeley Castle. After a brief interest in Catholicism, he became a devout Methodist which he remained devout to throughout his life. Both of his marriages were childless, and his second wife survived him by sixteen years.
