George Watson Taylor, born 1770, was an MP and plantation owner. Upon his marriage into the John-Taylor family in 1810, he became the riches plantation owner in Jamaica at the time. Among his hobbies was picture collecting, and his belongings and papers alongside those of the provided insight and detail into the plantation life in Jamaica. He was described as a “flamboyant and fabulously wealthy Jamaican plantation owner”, perhaps alluding to his lavish and leisurely lifestyle which lead to him accruing debt later in life. Among his guests and friends was King William IV. His dad, King George IV, was interested in Watson-Taylor’s furniture collection and bought multiple of his pieces in a sale in 1825.
