Henry Hoare became a partner of the family bank in 1785 and inherited the family home in 1787, selling it in 1827 as his primary residence was in St James’. Disapproving of the Catholic Emancipation, he was invested and involved with the Church of England acting as treasurer for the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts and acting as head of the building committee for the rebuilding of a church opposite the bank on Fleet Street. In 1797 he bought a Buckinghamshire estate from Lord Fitzroy and took a keen interest in land management. As his elder brother had died in 1828, he became a senior partner in the family bank and ten years later inherited the barony as well as estate in Wiltshire. He and his wife Maria married in 1783 and had sixteen children.
