Born in 1836, Barker was a student in the Military Department in 1854-55. He served in the 5th Foot (Fusiliers), 75th Foot, and the Royal Denbigh Militia. He became Ensign in 1855 (by purchase), Lieutenant in 1857 (without purchase, following a battlefield casualty), Captain in 1858 (by purchase), Adjutant in 1870, and Major in 1875. He resigned in 1876 and died in 1905.
