Born in Galway in 1780, Croker was a statesman and an author. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1800 and entered Lincoln’s Inn. He was called to the Irish Bar in 1802. Croker was a Member of Parliament from 1807 to 1832 for various constituencies. He was appointed First Secretary to the Admiralty in 1809, a position he held until 1827. Croker also had an established literary career, publishing extensively on literary and historical topics in the Quarterly Review,
