Born in 1787, Charlotte Florentia Clive was the daughter of politician Lord Edward Clive and mineral collector Henrietta Clive. Lady Charlotte married Hugh Percy (known as Earl Percy) in 1817, and shortly afterwards her husband became the Duke of Northumberland. Lady Charlotte was a friend of King William IV and she became the governess to his niece, Princess Victoria, in 1831. Victoria became queen in 1837. Lady Charlotte was dismissed as governess by Victoria’s mother in 1837 for supposedly attempting to become more influential in Victoria’s education. She died in 1866.
