A British poet and one of the major figures of the Romantic Movement. He was born in London in 1788 and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. Byron went on to publish numerous works of poetry and was known for his satirical, lyrical writing style. He was infamous for his extravagant lifestyle, love affairs, and debts. He left England permanently in 1816 due to public scandal. He lived briefly with Percy Bysshe Shelley, his wife Mary, and Mary’s half sister Claire Clairmont, with whom Byron had a daughter. He lived in Italy for six years before moving to Greece to join the revolutionaries fighting a war of independence against the Ottoman Empire. He died from fever in Greece in 1824, aged 36.
