Suceeded his father’s title of the Earl of Bristol in 1803 despite being the youngest son due to his brother predeceasing him, Hervey was the first Marquess of Bristol after being made so in 1826 alongside Earl Jermyn. In 1805 he became a fellow of the Royal Society while from 1788-93 he was ensign to the first footguards. Hervey was also M.P. for Bury St. Edmunds and in 1806 inherited his uncles’ estates.
