A wealthy Scottish aristocrat and industrialist who developed the coal and iron industries across South Wales and constructed the Cardiff Docks. He was born in 1793 and inherited the marquessate from his paternal grandfather in 1814. He held many hereditary titles and posts, including Earl of Windsor, Viscount Mountjoy, Baron Mount Stuart, and Baron Cardiff. He was a member of the House of Lords and a supporter of the Duke of Wellington, but rarely took part in national debates. He died in 1848 aged 54.
