An Anglican priest, botanist, and scholar of Hebrew and Syriac. Born in 1778, Rogers was educated at Trinity College, Oxford. He was ordained shortly afterwards and was appointed Canon Residentiary of Exeter in 1820. After his father’s death in 1832, he succeeded to the Penrose and Helston estates of about ten thousand acres, which included several mines in Cornwall. Rogers was an amateur botanist and mineralogist, but was chiefly known as a Hebrew and Syriac scholar. He died in 1856.
