Richard W Cradock

Richard W Cradock was born to North Yorkshire Militia Colonel and Whig MP Sheldon Cradock. He attended King’s College London from 1848-50, and would go on to serve in the 17th Regiment in the Leicestershire Regiment Foot, East York Regiment of Militia, and the 5th Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers. He ranked as a Ensign in 1849 by purchase, a Lieutenant in 1851 by purchase, a Captain without purchase in 1854, an Adjutant in 1855 in the same year he would marry Isma Helen Cowley Brown. He later ranked as an honorary Major in 1881.
