Robert Berkeley

Born in January 1841, Berkeley was a student in the Military Department at King’s in 1857-58. His father, Sackville Hamilton, was an officer in the army. Berkeley achieved the rank of Ensign in 1858 (without purchase), then Lieutenant in 1860 (with purchase), Captain in 1863 (with purchase), and Major in 1876, before he retired in 1879. He served in the 29th Regiment of Braemar. Berkeley died on 25 November 1913 aged 72.
