Born in Holborn in 1766, Samuel was educated at Cambridge and took the name Colman in 1786. He married Margaret Davies in 1786 as well. He served as deacon in Bagot between 1783 and 1790, as well as priest in Porteous between 1787 and 1809, and a rector in Rushemere in 1791. He was a chaplain at the EIC’s Fort William in Bengal from 1810, and returned to London to serve as a stipendiary curate in the St Bartholomew Exchange. He was a Freemason. He died in Boulogne, France, in 1842.
