A British Tory MP. Born in 1780, he entered Parliament as MP for Newark in 1829 and then as MP for Aldborough in 1831. He was an evangelical Anglican and this, combined with his previous experience as a Poor Law adminstrator in Leeds, led him to support the extension of the Poor Law to Ireland and bring forward a Bill to regulate the minimum age and maximum working hours of children in the textile industry. He died in Belfast in 1835.
