He inherited his grandfather’s viscountcy in 1820 as both his father and grandfather predeceased him adding Howe to his name by royal license in 1821 becoming Earl Howe. Between 1829 and 1830 he was made Tory Lord of the Bedchamber to King George IV and dismissed on the insistence of Lord Grey due to his stong opposition to Catholic emancipation. In 1830 he was also made part of the Royal Guelphic Order. He had ten children by his first wife and three by his second, who he married after Lady Brudenell’s death in 1830.
