Apparatus criticus

  • Text from autopsy ;
  • 1: The second letter shows no trace of a middle horizontal for 'E', while the lower stroke is both lighter and more curved than might be expected for E, suggesting possibly D (or L)?
  • 3: The final letter could be P or R

Physical description

Support

Description
Large fragment of a substantial white marble block. The front face is partially preserved, as is a very small smoothly finished area of the reverse. The fragment is irregularly broken on all four sides. On the lower rear left there is an area of curved surface, running from the intact part of the rear face towards the front, which appears to be original. If this is so, then it is likely that only a small amount of stone is missing from the front left face (c.10cm?). Modern red paint has been applied around the sides of the stone. Dimensions are those of the preserved face.
