Description
A large, thick plaque of fine white crystalline marble. Broken into 14 pieces, which can be joined together, leaving lacunae int he upper right corner and at two points in the interior, upper and lower left. The stone appears to re-use an earlier monument, from the traces of large Hellenistic Greek letters visible along the face of the lower edge, and due to the fact that each edge is differently finished reflecting a mixture of earlier surfaces and subsequent cutting down for the Latin inscription. The Greek letters are very slightly truncated along the lower edge. The top edge is roughly finished and cut back behind; the right edge has a smooth finish to half its depth and then becomes rough; the lower edge is finished, but with a distinct patina from the other finished faces, and the left edge has the same finish, albeit with what appear to be deliberate cut-aways from the surface. The face is square and finished smooth, bordered by a double moulding. The rear is cut straight and finished smooth.
