Provenance

Place of origin
Philosophiana
Provenance found
Li Gotti reports that it was found in the past (writing in 1955) in 'contrada Li Perni', sulla trazzera Sofiana-Riesi, which is presumably the modern SP27, or the SP178 which branches off it at Contrada Perni, east of Monte Perni; he adds that was preserved in the villa Alberti of Mazzarino. Manganaro claims to have photographed it in the house of the priest G. Bonanno in Mazzarino in 1969, misreporting its provenance as 'contrada Li Perni presso la villa Alberti'.

commentary

Despite having seen the stone, Manganaro reports having been unable to do more than identify the existence of illegible text. Li Gotti claims that it seemed to bear a Latin text referring to 'Septimus Severus Pontifex Maximus', and inferred that it was a milestone.
