Apparatus criticus

  • Text based upon Orsi and Ferrua;
  • 1: Ferrua: Δ(αιμοσιν) Θ(εοῖς) Χ(θονίοις); Kaibel: [Ἐνθά]δε κ[ῖτε]; Orsi and Crispi report three characters, seemingly a lambda, Roman D or a theta, and a chi, at the centre of the line.
  • 4: Crispi: IC; Kaibel proposes reading IE after Crispi
  • 5: Earlier editors propose reading ΚΑΛ before the month name, but Ferrua is correct in suggesting there is no space and it was probably omitted.

Muscolino discusses the likely attribution of this and a number of other pieces, the earliest records of which state that it came from Taormina, but also indicate that the stones were moved to Siracusa early, leading to general attribution to Siracusa.
