Apparatus criticus

  • Text from autopsy;
  • 1: Phi is a likely restoration for the first letter, given what appears to be a repetition of the same name (Pholoinia) in line 3. If so, we should imagine a very long vertical bar on the Phi as in line 3.

commentary

The name Pholoinia is unique and appears nowhere else in extant epigraphy. Besides from the repetition of the name, text is too fragmentary to guess at the rest of the inscription. The presence of the nominative doric form ματήρ suggests that the inscription should be considered Hellenistic and not imperial in date, but the structural form of the epitaph suggests the Roman period.
