The letters are wide, well spaced and regular in form, and deeply incised. Alpha with straight bar; epsilon has short middle bar; kappa has full length arms; mu has vertical first and last, with middle strokes almost full height; omicron is full size; rho has large rounded head, closed; sigma has parallel top and bottom, and middle strokes almost full width; omega is closed, and slightly tear-drop shaped, with horizontal tails.

Notwithstanding the damage, it is clear that there was no ethnic included in the first part of the text, and the inscription appears complete. The name Βίωτος is also attested on tile and amphora stamps from southern Italy; no other form ending -ιωτος is known from the region.
