Description
Described as a 'tabella marmorea' by Kaibel (after Benndorf), seemingly broken on all sides. It is impossible to know whether it was actually a true marble plaque, or rather a plaque of the local fine Taormina limestone, which can be polished and is employed for the other gymnasium and civic inscriptions. The fact that it is a plaque, rather than a block or stele, in contrast to all the other surviving pieces, might encourage the idea that it was indeed a plaque of imported marble.
