commentary
The epitaph is fragmentary: Korhonen (2004: 243) suggested two possible formulae, the first with the name of the deceased in dative followed by [ἐ]ποίησ[εν υἱὸς ε]υσεβή[ς] (see also IG 14.527 = ISic001346), the second with the name of the dedicant in nominative and the dative of the deceased, not named (e.g. [ὁ δεῖνα ἐ]ποίησ[εν υἱῷ ε]ὐσεβ<ε>ῖ, [ὃς ἔ]ζησε ἔ[τη κτλ.]). The Korhonen rejects Kaibel’s reading ε]ὐσεβ[εστάτ because he reads a vertical stroke after Β, which could only have been an Η or a Ι. ε]ὐσεβ[ at l. 2 could also be not a form of the adjective but a proper name, such as Εὐσεβία or Εὐσέβιος (LGPN 3A: 176). However, since we are not sure how much space is missing on the left and right, it is also possible that the deceased had a different degree of kinship ([ὁ δεῖνα ἐ]ποίησ[εν συμβίῳ ε]ὐσεβῖ, see also IG 14.492 = ISic001314 or IG 14.495 = ISic001317).
