commentary

It is impossible to know if the numeral of age at death was simply 60, or anything up to 69. The inscription was seen in the collection of the Rizzari family in the first half of the eighteenth century. Several of the inscriptions from this collection subsequently passed to France, to the collection of Léon Dufourny, but the fate of this particular one is not recorded and it has not been seen subsequently. Detailed discussion can be found in K. Korhonen, Le iscrizioni del Museo Civico di Catania (2004), pp. 14-16 with n.37.
