commentary

The text is very difficult to read and the interpretation much disputed, although Garbini was confident that it is not Punic. Guarducci and Garbini debated the presence of various letter forms, whether Megaran or from Selinunte, and Guarducci speculated that it was a non-Greek inscription in Greek letters. It seems most likely to be a damaged and difficult to read funerary inscription.
