Description
A large limestone base, somewhat worn, and damaged upper right corner and lower left. Mouldings top and bottom of the main base, with a further moulding above the top part of the base. the face is very worn, and the texts hard to discern.

Two texts are incised on the front of the base, one on the main face between the principal mouldings, and a second on the smaller upper section, between the two upper mouldings.

commentary

The editors note that the text in the upper field could be in either Latin or Greek, and that the sequence IMI could theoretically form part of a Roman name such as Aimilios. Two other comparable bases (anepigraphic) are known from Segesta, and represent a typical type of the Roman period. The likely provenance from the vicinity of the agora, and the form, suggest an honorific.
