commentary

The fragments appear to be unpublished. The letters -VL are compatible with few words, and the most obvious expansion of -VL · DE is 'consul designatus'. However, the preceding trace is incompatible with S (it is also incompatible with M, ruling out 'simul'). A funerary inscription with a numeral followed by 'depositus' is theoretically possible (although VL as a numeral is not common). Fragment (a) bears the letters 'KEN' in black ink, presumably added when the piece was accessioned to the museum.
