commentary
The inscription was cut down to a small rectangular plaque for re-use as an epitaph in the catacombs. Brown marks on both sides of the stone derive from a wooden frame used previously to display the plaque. The text is clearly a monumental public Latin text of the high imperial period, perhaps originally from the area of the Forum.
