Date

Probably to be associated with one of the construction phases of the theatre (initial construction end of the 4th century BCE; second phase c. 200 BCE, third phase initiated c. 100 BCE, following Isler), but the letter forms make a date before the second century BCE highly unlikely (200 BC – 101 BC)

commentary

Isler suggests reading Antallos in line 1. It is very plausible that IGPalermo 40 = ISic001560, found at Monte Iato in 1969, constitutes part of the same inscription (Isler 2000 argues for the association), but without autopsy of the piece and proper comparison with these two fragments we continue to treat it as a distinct fragment for now.
