commentary
The epitaph has the traditional structure with the invocation to the underworld deities, the mention of the deceased and her age. In an independent sentence are the names of the dedicants, the name of the deceased in dative and the dedication verb. In this epitaph, the degree of kinship of the dedicators towards the deceased is also specified (γονεῖς) and the affective expression τέκνῳ γλυκυτάτῳ. The parents are also named in IG 14.1981 = ISic003252, an epitaph for Ourbana’s mother, Roskia Nike (the Nike of this epitaph) perhaps coming from the same monument and thus later than this epitaph. For the name Οὐρβᾶνα/Urbana, see also CIL 10.7347 = ISic000053.
