commentary

The fragment was probably part of an epitaph, in which the degree of kinship between the deceased and the dedicant was specified. It is not possible to say whether ἀδελφ(-) referred to a male or a female: reading a Η before the ς, it would be ἀδελφός, reading Ι it is possible to think of a male (the name would have had an ending in -ι(ο)ς) or a female (the name would have had an ending in -ις and the word after would have been ἀδελφή).
