commentary

For the material context, see Collura 2016. Among the many points of interest, is the fact that the piece survives on a small marble plaque, when it contains instructions for publication in two copies on bronze (compare the Halaesa bronze inscriptions for Nemenios). The presence of lunate sigma alongside consistent iota adscript is also notable, perhaps encouraging a second century BCE date, and the style of the lettering has most in common with texts on metal at this date. The use of marble is relatively rare in the Hellenistic period on the island. The piece also offers a rare example, for Sicily, of honours explicitly for a euergetes.
