Found during the excavations (from 1957 to 1977) by the Soprintendenza alle Antichità della Sicilia Occidentale in the area of Grotta Vanella, on the north-east slope of Monte Barbaro, 1.9km east of temple of Segesta.

The inscription was scratched before painting (cf. Tusa 1966, no.48), so it should be considered, according to Agostiniani (1977, no.132), an Attic abbreviation (however, there are no comparisons with this specific abbreviation).
