Found in 1968 during the excavations by the Soprintendenza alle Antichità della Sicilia Occidentale in the ancient necropolis in the area of Manico di Quarara, on the slopes of Monte d'Oro di Montelepre, 1.4km north-west of Montelepre.

Most scholars agree with the division of the text into αταιτυκαι and εμι, in which εμι would have the value of 'I am' and the second term would be an onomastic formula. Agostiniani (1977) hypothesises that this second part of the inscription could be a bimember onomastic formula (αται τυκαι), while Ferri (1968) identifies in the first part of the inscription the name Ατος, attested in Selinunte.
