commentary

Most scholars agree with the division of the text into αταιτυκαι and εμι, in which εμι would have the value of 'I am' and the second term would be an onomastic formula. Agostiniani (1977) hypothesises that this second part of the inscription could be a bimember onomastic formula (αται τυκαι), while Ferri (1968) identifies in the first part of the inscription the name Ατος, attested in Selinunte.
