commentary

As Lallies notes, the names Οἰνάνθη and Μητίχη recur in Athens as names of hetairai. The formula μ’ ἔδο̄κε reminds of the better known in the Sicyonian alphabet on the dinos of Villa Giulia with the signature of Exechias (https://www.museoetru.it/works/dinos-attico-a-figure-nere-di-exekias). Also in this case it is plausible to assume that the formula refers to the person who ordered the vase: Οἰνάνθη would have given the alabastron and the band (perhaps a breastband of the type used by young girls, see e.g. Anacreont.22.13) as a gift to another woman whose name (in dative case) is difficult to determine because of the gap in the middle of the text.
