commentary

According to most scholars (cf. among others Arena, IGASM, no. 27; Dubois, IGDS, no. 135) this inscription testifies to the existence in Gela of the cult of the oecist Antiphamos, whose name is also known from the passage in Thucydides on the foundation of the apoikia (Thuc. 6.4.3).
