commentary

The engraver started engraving Σι above and then wrote the entire name in the centre of the underside of the foot of the vessel. The onomastics are quite unusual. It could be a masculine of Σιβίλλα and the occurrence would therefore be a hapax. Or it could be an omega formation of the feminine (Arena IGASM no.38).
