commentary
The inscription, mentioned by Camera (2010, 47, 115, in the publication of the excavations at the necropolis of Casa Cantoniera, Terravecchia di Grammichele) and published by Sudano (2105, 701, no. 1), bears a recurring name in the Sicilian context, Greek and non-Greek. See, in particular: the Sikel theonym Μαίη attested at Akrai (Manganaro 1992, 474-485; Manganaro 1981, 1069-1082); a defixio from Selinous that bears the anthroponym Μαίε (Arena, ISAMG 4, 72-73). The name may occur at Montagna di Marzo on the bottom of a B2 Attic cup and a skyphos respectively (nos. 74-75, tomb East 31; ISic020740 and ISic020739). The reading of these two documents - μαιεσκακα and μαιεσκακα; αρ according to Manganaro (Manganaro 1999, 19-27, figs. 36-37-38) - has, however, been questioned by Agostiniani (see more recently Agostiniani, Albanese Procelli 2018, part. 186-187) who reads them as μαρεσκαμι and μαρεσκακα; αρ.
