commentary

The inscription may correspond to the form without nu of the term ĪĪµĪ½Ī“Ī±Ļ‚, very common in the inscriptions of the indigenous Sicily (see Sudano 2015, 702, note 16 and, e.g. the inscription from Sciri ISic003362, and the two Ionic kylikes from Castiglione di Ragusa ISic020698 and ISic020699). ĪĪµĪ½Ī“Ī±Ļ‚ has been interpreted as theonym by Manganaro 2003, 149, then as a word part of a funerary votive formula by Agostiniani, Prosdocimi 1976-1977, 229-230 (it often occurs in inscriptions on vessels from grave goods). The current interpretation is that it is an indigenous anthroponym (Agostiniani-Cordano 2002, 83-85).
