commentary
This tablet is peculiar on account of its use of nominal abbreviations, which constitutes a rather unusual practice for curse tablets on account of the fact that they often required precision when indicating the victim to be cursed. If we accept ΑϜΙΣ in l.13, we must recall that in the Sicilian Greek dialects intervocalic digamma is unattested, even in the earliest inscriptions. For this reason, Lopez Jimeno dates the tablet to the fourth century BCE; Bettarini, however, believes that the author of the text is not a Sicilian but a mainland Greek speaker.
