Layout
Only the right margin of the text is preserved; the last preserved line of text may well be the final line of the original due to the lack of visible letters below it and the fact that the line runs closest to the right edge of the lamina (perhaps in an effort to avoid running onto a new line); the full bottom margin is not preserved. Top and left margins are unknown. No word breaks at line ends.

commentary

Manganaro's readings of Line 1 are not supported by G. Foglia's drawing in Cordano 1984, but Lines 2-7 are dominated by personal names, and so it may well be correct. Outstanding questions are: 1) how much text to imagine existing to the left of fragment 1 and 2) why does the person named on Line 2 get a fully spelled out δευτέραι?

On point 1, Line 3 ends with a tribe and phratry designation, and the preserved beginning of Line 4 begins with a tribe and phratry designation, so we must have at least enough space for a name and patronymic to the left of what is preserved. This being the case, if we accept Manganaro's restoration of Ἄμποχοι in Line 1, then we should have 2 guarantors on Line 2 (i.e. a name, patronymic, and tribe/phratry designation before Euthukles/Bathukles), 2 more on Line 3, 2 more on Line 4, 3 more on Line 5, 1 more on Line 6, and 2 more on Line 7: 12 guarantors in all. On the other hand, if we do not accept the restoration of Ἄμποχοι, then we have the more normal number of 10 guarantors, and Euthukles/Bathukles becomes an official or perhaps one of the parties to the transaction.

On point 2, Manganaro's restoration of two abbreviations is tortured. Dubois in IGDS1 suggests that it may be an "indication of a date" but ordinals for the date usually follow the name of the month; it is however possible that the month followed at the beginning of the next line.
