Description
Two fragments of a large, thick plaque(?) of limestone; joined together with plaster when seen by Bivona, but seemingly not actually joining, with a gap of at least 2-3 letters in between (as proposed by Mommsen). Fragment A (left) is H 29 x W 47 x D 18 cm; Fragment B (right) is H 31 x W 68 x D 20 (measurements by Bivona).

commentary

The text references the use of the interest from a sum left by a will for a purpose unknown (e.g. public banqueting, or similar). Although seen by Mommsen and Bivona in the civic museum, it could not be located in 2022/2023. Gualtherus reports both fragments without connecting them; Castelli only reports the right hand fragment; Romano joins the fragments, and reads the name 'Ismontis' in the first line. Mommsen correctly notes the need for some space between the fragments.
