commentary

The upper part of the stone is currently located in the courtyard of the Palazzo Vescovile in Mazara del Vallo; there is no trace of the lower part of the stone, previously recorded in CIL and by earlier authors. The text almost certainly honours the same individual as ISic003460, found in Marsala in 2010. Whether the stone was transferred after antiquity from Marsala, as has often been suggested, or whether Mazara was a subordinate community of Lilybaeum in the Roman period, remains uncertain.
